IIPC, the International Internet Preservation Consortium, is an organisation dedicated to improving web archiving tools, standards and practices. International web archiving standards emerge as a result of projects and activities of the working groups within this Consortium.
Web archiving involves collecting, storing and making web content available for future research. It significantly contributes to digital humanities.
IIPC was formally established in July 2003 at the National Library of France, with the involvement of 12 more institutions collectively agreeing to finance projects and participate in working groups. The member institutions (libraries, museums, archives and research institutions) sign partnership agreements for a period of five years. IIPC members include university, national and public libraries and archives from France, Spain, the UK, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Switzerland, Iceland, Canada, Singapore and the USA, with the Internet Archive, a non-profit digital library, as a key partner.
The National Library of Serbia joined IIPC in March 2016 and has since participated in seven projects focused on collecting materials on globally relevant topics such as the Summer and Winter Olympics, migrant crisis, climate change, Covid 19, etc.
